About us

Our goal is to manage the social, economic, and environmental impacts of the university, and to train leaders who are agents of change and, through an inclusive and quality education, can contribute to the creation of a sustainable society, generating positive value via their environmental, social, and governance commitment, and thus contributing to the transformation and sustainable development of the community, the country, and the world.

INCLUSIVE AND QUALITY EDUCATION

Promote an inclusive and quality education that prepares professionals with the required competencies to contribute to the sustainable development of society and have a positive influence on their environment, Raise awareness of sustainability criteria in the educational community. Include the importance of sustainability and its development in the academic curriculum. Become an educational model on sustainability issues.

INCLUSIVE AND QUALITY EDUCATION ACTIVITIES

GENERACIÓN PLATEADA (SILVER GENERATION) PROGRAM

In partnership with Fundación Romero, UPC is holding lectures aimed at 50-year-old senior citizens to develop their abilities and knowledge, and to promote their personal and professional development. During these lectures, UPC professionals share their knowledge about entrepreneurship, success, soft skills, motivation, self-leadership and Business Model Canvas.

AYUDA EN ACCIÓN

In August, 2023, UPC forged an alliance with Fundación Ayuda en Acción (Help in Action Foundation) to improve rural teachers’ skills. The partnership began with the creation of an Educational Methodological Guide prepared by UPC's School of Education, which is key to design a teacher training program with the required primary competencies.

LAUREATE TRANSFORMA SCHOLARSHIP

Laureate Peru and their affiliated institutions launched the Laureate Transforma (Laureate Transforms) scholarship to give access to quality education to young people lacking financial resources. This facilitates personal and family development, and helps close the educational gap in the country.

INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF EDUCATORS

Congress aimed at teachers and everyone interested in the educational field, which allows sharing, debating, understanding, and using the latests trends in educational innovation with the participation of international speakers from prestigious universities.

SOCIAL IMPACT

Promote the link and interaction between the university community and society, aligned with the 2030 agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. Develop and manage social projects that generate a positive impact in society. Manage the relationship with stakeholders and forge alliances and articulations for the development of initiatives with a multiplying effect. Promote and develop voluntary work, formative experiences and experiential opportunities that strengthen the ethical and responsible commitment with the environment and society.

SOCIAL IMPACT ACTIVITIES

TREE PLANTING CAMPAIGN

Partnered with the Municipality of Lima and assisted by SERPAR (Lima Parks Service), UPC is organizing a tree planting campaign in the communities near the university's campuses. This initiative involves the participation of volunteer students from various programs with the goal of promoting environmental conservation and well-being.

BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN

UPC is committed to people's health and well-being through voluntary blood donations in alliance with EsSalud's Rebagliati Hospital. For this purpose, UPC calls and carries out campaigns in its 4 campuses to motivate collaborator and student participation.

ANEMIA CERO CAMPAIGN

In 2023, UPC began the Anemia Cero (Zero Anemia) Campaign to prevent this public health issue that affects children and their cognitive development and learning ability. The first phase of the campaign consisted in detecting anemia in UPC collaborators’ children from 0 to 3 years of age.

Promote research aligned with the 2030 agenda, the SDGs, and the ESG (environmental, social, and governance) criteria. Articulate research, development, and innovation with social responsibility, promoting research initiatives in the university community and working towards solving the country's necessities and problems.

PROTAGONISTAS DEL CAMBIO UPC POR LOS ODS

Since 2010, Protagonistas del Cambio UPC por los ODS (UPC Protagonists of Change for the SDGs) is a sustainability program that draws attention to entrepreneurs with positive social initiatives. Since 2023, UPC partnered with the United Nations to search for agents of change that help achieve the sustainable development goals.

CORPORATE CREATIVITY AWARD

This award recognizes institutions for their innovation and positive impact in the transformation of Peru. In 2023, the category “management with ESG intent” was introduced to emphasize the crucial role of sustainability in corporate growth, and the impact of sustainable development in society and the planet, both in the public and private sector.

SUSTAINABLE CAMPUS MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES

SUSTAINABLE CAMPUS STRATEGIES

The University has consolidated a comprehensive approach to sustainability by promoting a number of proactive initiatives in terms of responsible resource consumption. In terms of energy, the implementation of eco-efficiency policies has resulted in the successful transition to more efficient technologies, such as LED lights and solar thermal panels. Similarly, water conservation measures include the installation of water saving devices and the adoption of drip irrigation systems in vertical gardens. In addition, we promote a culture of less paper and single-use plastics consumption through awareness-raising campaigns and the promotion of digital practices. Integrated waste management also stands out, with agreements for the recycling of various materials and a constant search for waste recovery. This sustainable strategy extends to infrastructure and mobility, prioritizing sustainable construction and transport, as well as the adoption of work and study methods that minimize environmental impact. Together, these actions reflect an institutional commitment to responsible environmental management, aligned with international standards such as the ISO 14001 standard.

WEEE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

UPC joined Claro Peru's WEEE management program to offer students and collaborators the possibility of correctly disposing of their unused electronic devices. Since September 2023, the University has recycling bins on all its campuses and receives support from Claro and its partner Comimtel to conduct awareness-raising workshops.

MINAM RAI ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT

UPC, as a member of the Inter-University Environmental Network (Red Ambiental Interuniversitaria, RAI), complies with the submission of its Environmental Sustainability Report, following the guidelines of the Ministry of the Environment (MINAM) and the RAI. This report details the progress and actions carried out by the institution in areas such as institutional management, academic training, social commitment, and research.

PERU SIN JAULAS (PERU WITHOUT CAGES)

UPC, committed to sustainability and animal well-being, partnered with the Open Wing Alliance and Association for Animal Rescue and Well-being (ARBA) to purchase eggs exclusively from free-range hens from 2023 onwards. This initiative, led by the Schools of Hospitality and Tourism Administration, Tourism and Gastronomy, marks the beginning of future ethical and sustainable practices in its value chain.

The SDGs are a universal call to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all people. Of the 17 SDGs, Laureate Peru and UPC, in their commitment to sustainable development, have prioritized eight of them.

The implementation of this policy will require the participation of all collaborators, the university community, and all related areas. Through this policy, UPC aspires to be a role model in the field of sustainability and social responsibility

MERCO Ranking ESG Responsibility: 1st place in the Education Sector Ranking and TOP 10 in the General Ranking of Organizations with best ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) sustainability practices.

ISO 14001: Environmental Management System

International certification for our Environmental Management System, which includes all programs and processes at all four campuses and the UPC University Health Center.

Impact ranking - Times Higher Education (THE)

2nd place in Peru. This ranking measures the contribution of universities to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations (UN).

EGS Distinction

Awarded by Perú Sostenible (Sustainable Peru) in recognition of UPC's sustainable management in four evaluation pillars: Organizational Strategy, Environmental Development, Organizational Values and Culture, and Management and Impact.

QS Ranking

We ranked #128 in the QS Ranking Latin America 2024 and obtained an overall score of 4 stars in the QS Stars Rating 2022, in line with our dedication to delivering exceptional education. We also achieved a 5-star rating in the areas of teaching, employability, academic development, social responsibility, inclusion, and online learning.
